Like Beck, Jim Guthrie, Paul McCartney and others before him, Hot Water Music songwriter Chuck Ragan has become the latest artist to score a videogame. He is on deck to pen the music for The Flame in the Flood, a game which is being funded with an ambitious Kickstarter campaign.
The game is being developed by collective the Molasses Flood, with a team that includes folks involved with BioShock, Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The Kickstarter campaign is aiming to raise a whopping $150,000, and with 29 days to go, it's already earned nearly $69,000 (as of press time).
Designed for PC and Mac, The Flame in the Flood takes players on a survival journey down a river, with regions inspired by the Everglades, the Mississippi Delta, Louisiana bayous and more. In other words, the game has a rustic Americana vibe, and Ragan's folksy style is perfectly suited to it. Camaraderie, the Fearless Kin and others are tapped to collaborate.
The first single from the game will be the title track "The Flame in the Flood," featuring the Fearless Kin.
"I'm completely honoured to link up with the Molasses Flood team who've invited me to write an original score for The Flame in the Flood," Ragan said in a statement. "There are some exciting tracks going down for this project that feature the Camaraderie and the Fearless Kin along with more special and surprise guests to come. I'm scoring a mix of compositions inspired by this game and the journey within that weave in and out of stripped down instrumentals and broader spectrums of production."
Stay tuned to the Kickstarter campaign for more information about the project and for updates about how it's progressing. Watch a trailer for the game, featuring Ragan's music, below.
Ragan released his album Till Midnight earlier this year. He will be touring Canada solo this December.
