Citay

Citay

Despite their strong line-up of musicians, Citay’s debut release offers an unbalanced collection of songs that swings too frequently from soothing to self-indulgent. Drawing on an assortment of classic rock influences that includes Led Zeppelin and Heart, Citay feature Tim Green of Fucking Champs and Ezra Feinberg, formerly of Piano Magic. On the disc’s stronger moments, the two use acoustic guitars to create lulling arrangements. On its weaker occasions, Citay’s prominent guitar soloing is enough to make the listener envision the group recorded the disc while staring into a mirror, wearing spandex pants and Steve Vai haircuts. The lack of balance and restraint ultimately delivers an uneven album.
