Close Talker

'Slow Weather' (EP stream)

Seinfeld-referencing Saskatoon outfit Close Talker released their album Timbers earlier this year, and now they've recorded new versions two tracks from that album, along with a couple of brand new ones for a cassette EP called Slow Weather. It will be available at upcoming shows and then sold online starting on December 24. But right now, it's available to stream ahead of time on Exclaim.ca.

The gritty "Creature" and the smoothly textured "She's on Fire" both appeared on Timbers, but the renditions here are more stripped-down and haunting. As for the new tracks, "Perth" is an atmospheric cover of the Bon Iver tune, while "Slow Weather" is a soft acoustic meditation.

The band's Matthew Kopperud explained in a statement, "We wanted to include both new and old music but present it with a completely fresh perspective that hopefully shows some versatility on our behalf. It was also a great excuse for us to venture into some new directions and chase down a vibe that we secretly always wanted to. We felt as if we pursued a Close Talker side project, though still in the confides of Close Talker, and scratched a new area of music that just proved to us that music is truly a never ending pursuit."

Close Talker will perform with Library Voices on December 20 at the Exchange in Regina. The next day, Close Talker will headline Amigo's in Saskatoon. Tapes will be available at both shows.
