Death & Resistance is the new four-track EP from Dayton, OH post-metal/experimental doom band Close the Hatch. Marking their fifth release in five years, the EP is, in one word, heavy. Filled with dense, monolithic riffs and eerie, ambient noise, Death & Resistance contains a harsh yet delicate atmosphere that offers a fresh take on influences that range from Deftones, Mastodon and Meshuggah to Isis (the band) and Neurosis.

"Doubt" opens the release with minimalistic guitar work, gloomy tones and ominous, almost whispered vocals before crashing drums and grating screams kick in, only to dissipate and rebuild once again. "The Nighttime Pugilist" simply crushes, with powerful doom rhythms and coarse roars that transition to ethereal clean vocals that carry on into the aggressive yet beautiful "Wayfarer."

The EP finishes on a high note with "When Street Lights Die," combining raw intensity with hypnotic, avant-garde elements. Thoughtfully composed, Death & Resistance is completely engaging throughout and is absolutely the darkest and heaviest release from Close the Hatch to date.
