Colin Meloy Busks in NYC, Announces New Decemberists Album 'What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World'

New material from the Decemberists may be on the way, and they're rolling it out old school. Frontman Colin Meloy announced via Twitter that he'll be busking new Decemberists songs on the streets of New York City this morning (October 24).

Positioned at the corner of Bedford and 7th, he's "the bearded and bespectacled guy."

While the band have whetted fans' appetites with a live album and their Long Live the King EP, the Decemberists haven't released a proper full-length studio album since 2011's The King Is Dead.

UPDATE: Meloy began busking in front of a mural that reveals the band's new album will be called What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World. He also performed the new song "Make You Better," as well as the Decemberist classic "The Engine Drive." You can get a taste of that new tune in the clip below.

Meloy's promise of new songs is an exciting one, we just hope his busking experience is slightly more successful than Erykah Badu's. She tried her hand at the age-old musical tradition last week and ended up pocketing a whopping $3.60.
