Coliseum

No Salvation

BY Keith CarmanPublished Sep 19, 2007

There’s sludge and then there’s Coliseum. Redefining the world of punk rock’n’roll with an attack similar to the patient, methodical crushing of German tanks during a blitzkrieg, Coliseum’s No Salvation is far weightier and imposing than one would expect from three measly members. Commanding attention through raspy distortion and steely vocals, songs such as "Defeater,” "Shake It Off” and "Fall Of The Pigs” are based on the same straight-up rock’n’roll that has given Electric Frankenstein almost two decades of punk’n’roll dominance, yet the embittered atmosphere and disgruntled vocal attack of Ryan Patterson screams similarity to Sanctuary-era Discharge. Where typical punk rock’n’rollers steal from obvious places, Coliseum ensure the hardcore contingent get their due as well.
