Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains

The Big Eyeball in the Sky

As if Primus front-man Les Claypool needed more projects to fill his time, he adds a sixth band to his roster. As with his other projects, CCBOBB features a line-up assembled for the particular peculiarity of the band’s intended sound. Anchored by Claypool’s trademark nasally caterwaul and his slinky, white-boy funk bass lines, this band includes enigmatic masked guitar noodler and one-time Guns N’ Roses slasher Buckethead, former Primus basher Brian Mantia on drums and ex-P-Funk and Talking Heads keyboardist Bernie Worrell (the latter three were also part of Bill Laswell’s avant-noise combo, Praxis). The combination of elements, both inventively funky and unusually topical and serious (at least by Claypool’s standards) makes bold statements on both a musical and political level. It also features some of the finest playing from any of these guys in a long time. Fans of Frank Zappa should pay particular attention.
