Everyone's favourite Sup Pop Francophones Corridor released the delightful Mimi and its incredible album art into the world last year, and now, vocalist Jonathan Personne has returned with details of his fourth solo album under his own name. Nouveau Monde is due out March 14 via Bonsound, and it's being previewed today with two new songs.
The first of the two, "Zoé sur la montagne," is based on a tune the musician sings to his daughter and arrives alongside an animated music video, which he made and describes as "misty and hazy, like a childhood memory. I liked the idea of playing with tangible images, blending them to create rather abstract moments." You can watch that and hear "Deuxième vie" below.
The nine-track album is said to tap influences "from the '60s to the 2000s, combining sunshine pop and yacht rock, slacker folk and shoegaze, with proto-punk and stoner-psychedelic layers." On it, Personne "eschews his usual cynicism in favour of universal lessons about life, perceptions and hope."
Nouveau Monde will get a pair of release shows: first at Montreal's La Sala Rossa on March 13, then Quebec City's Le Pantoum on April 10. Find ticket info here.
