Cosma

Simplicity

BY Philip DowneyPublished May 1, 2002

Cosma presents us with a smooth disc of trance. The beats are all four-on-the-floor with gentle acid gurgles and other noises swirl around backed by long progressions of minor chords played by strings. In short, it's fairly standard trance. Although the tempos are sometimes quick, the tracks never feel rushed, since none of the melodies or other noises change rapidly. At times, there are small vocal samples, either spoken or sung, but no words to speak of. The influences on this album come from psychedelic trance, but this album doesn't have the harshness or velocity usually associated with the genre. You won't find any surprises on this album, but as melodic trance goes, it's not bad.
