Bruce Springsteen's status as a New Jersey icon is indisputable, but would he ever use his popularity to launch a political career? A new poll indicates he would have a lot of support from the public.
As the Guardian points out, a survey from Public Policy Polling, conducted last weekend (July 15 to 18), asked voters about possible alternatives to incumbent Republican Governor Chris Christie. The organizers added the Boss to the poll as a gag, and may have been surprised when he tied Christie with a whopping 42 percent of the vote. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent
Of course, a commitment-free survey is very different from an actual vote, so it's possible that Springsteen wouldn't fare so well if he actually ran for governor. Then again wrestler Jessie "The Body" Ventura held office in Minnesota, while Arnold Schwarzenegger was California's governor until early this year, so anything's possible.
And it's not inconceivable that Springsteen would run for governor. After all, there's always been a political slant to his blue-collar anthems. He's even clashed with Christie in the past over budget cuts and same-sex marriage issues. Let's face it -- it would be pretty cool if the Boss was actually the boss.
