Australian indie rocker Courtney Barnett has finally announced plans for her highly anticipated sophomore record. Titled Tell Me How You Really Feel, it's due out May 18 via Mom+Pop/Marathon Artists/Milk! Records.
It marks the follow-up to her brilliant 2015 debut LP Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, though she also released collaborative album Lotta Sea Lice with Kurt Vile last year.
According to a press release, the new record hears Barnett imbuing her music with a sound that incorporates "a new-found directness," "a muscularity to the instrumentation," "a tenderness in her voice" and "a boldness to the lyrics."
The first listen arrives with lead single "Nameless, Faceless," which hears Barnett spitting sharp-as-ever one-liners. She hilariously repurposes a sick burn that she actually received in the comments section ("I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and spit out better words than you"), but hits on darker realities come the chorus — borrowing Margaret Atwood's words about the fear that women feel walking in public at night.
