Members of New York hardcore crew Cro-Mags have sued former bassist Harley Flanagan for damages over the alleged stabbing incident that occurred during a brawl between both camps at a concert last July.
The New York Post reports that the group's William Berardo and Michael Couls have filed a civil suit against Flanagan and Webster Hall in Manhattan Supreme Court, requesting unspecified damages for injuries obtained during the backstage brawl at the venue on July 6 during the CBGB Festival. Lawyers allege that Flanagan stabbed both claimants with a five-inch hunting knife and that he bit Couls. They say that the attack was unprovoked, and that "the hall failed to hire sufficiently trained security personal to protect the plaintiffs."
While Flanagan had been charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, the charges had been dropped last December over a lack of sufficient evidence.
For his part, Flanagan claimed self-defence over the incident, stating that he had been ambushed in an "old fashion biker beat down."
"When I saw that door get pulled shut I was literally fighting for my life," he said at the time. "I was afraid these guys were going to kick me half to death, roll me down the back steps and that no one would see it... and there would be no witnesses and that would be that."
The New York Post reached out to the bassist yesterday (June 26) for a comment about being sued, to which he reportedly answered "According to who?" and hung up. Webster Hall has yet to issue a statement of its own.
