Dave Lang is best known to fans as a singer-guitarist in the laid-back Vancouver Island band Current Swell, but now he's branching out with a solo project called Davers. Ahead of his self-titled EP on November 9, Exclaim! has the premiere of the track "Tooth and Nail."
This is a mellow tune that combines a straightforward country-rock rhythm with spacious production touches. It sounds a bit like Beck's Sea Change in the way it merges poignant folk with lush arrangements.
In a statement, Davers explains that the song is "about inspiring my kids/future kids," with lyrics that directly address his then-unborn daughter. The song also examines the world at large, and Davers adds, "There's so much focus in the world on dividing people — this song tries to look within ourselves to find a common place somehow."

Davers' new EP was produced by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, the New Pornographers, Dan Mangan). It will come out on Oscar St. Records.
