After more than a decade in the game, and numerous ups and downs that have now become fodder for his flows, Toronto-based rapper D-Sisive is finally set to release his debut album for the Urbnet label. Scheduled for release on May 5, Let The Children Die is a testament to the tireless working schedule the rapper/songwriter has faced even just the last year alone.
In a recent interview with Exclaim!, D-Sisive explained that he works best when he's constantly on the go. "The more I kept creating, the more I wanted to release," he admitted of his hectic recent release schedule. "Attention spans are a lot shorter nowadays when it comes to music. It's vital you stay relevant. The only way I knew how was to keep putting out music. I released The Idiot, The Book, two 'plus-three' EPs, a mixtape with DJ Grouch of old and new material, and finished Let The Children Die in less than a year. The Book was released May 27 of last year. LTCD is out May 5. That's work ethic, son."
D-Sisive went on to reveal that like last year's The Book, where the class clown really reinvented himself for the first time as an honest, down-to-earth rapper willing to open up his diary-like rhyme book for the world to see, the new album is also a dark and depressing journey through his life (with a few braggadocio posse cuts thrown in for good measure). "It's my story," D-Sisive says of the subject matter. "My story just happens to have a lot of depressing chapters. [But the] darkness can also have some light. The sad songs on The Book were fucking sad. Nothing to smile at. LTCD is a little different. A tad lighter."
