DaBaby has released a second apology after being dropped from multiple festivals following his homophobic remarks at Miami's Rolling Loud music festival in late July.
"I want to apologize to the LBGTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made," he said in an Instagram statement posted Tuesday (August 2). "Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless."
This second apology marked an obvious change in tone from DaBaby, real name Jonathon Kirk, whose previous attempts at apologizing — including a music video that contained the message "My apologies for being me the same way you want the freedom to be you" — only further stoked public outrage.
DaBaby's new statement also thanks those who "came to [him] with kindness," blaming social media for not allowing him the opportunity to "grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes."
During his set at Rolling Loud, the rapper asked attendees who weren't gay men or people affected by HIV or AIDS to raise their cellphone flashlights, and incorrectly claimed the disease would "make you die in two or three weeks."
Since his outburst, DaBaby has also lost a brand deal with the clothing line boohooMAN and faced condemnation from dozens of artists including Elton John, Madonna and former collaborator Dua Lipa.
