The Dandy Warhols

Considering the direction the Dandy Warhols have gone in over the course of their last few releases, this might be the best time to look back fondly on their better days, and that's exactly what the band have done with the release of The Dandy Warhols ARE Sound. A quick look at the tracklisting reveals this isn't a new record but a new version of 2003 album Welcome To The Monkey House, mixed by Russell Elavedo, who's previously worked with the Roots and Alicia Keys. According to the Dandies, this was the version they originally wanted to release but their record company said "no," going with the more radio-friendly version. Monkey House was always a good album, making The Dandy Warhols ARE Sound redundant. It isn't dramatically different; it's a little funkier and a bit more subtle, with less studio gloss than the version that saw the light of day. But it's hard to tell if it deserves any extra attention six years on. For a band that are spinning their wheels, this will have to do in lieu of some good new ideas.
