Are you down with new Disturbed that sounds like old Disturbed? Frontman David Draiman has dropped some hints about the Chicago-formed metal outfit's forthcoming new album. Spoiler alert: it might not be too far off from their previous material.
Appearing on the Loudwire Nights radio show, the singer teased how Disturbed's new music was sounding in a new interview.
"Well, it's angsty, that's for sure," Draiman told host Toni Gonzalez. "It's aggressive, it's rhythmic, it's anthemic — it's old school Disturbed."
He continued: "If I had to target it, it's somewhere between [2000's] The Sickness and [2005's] Ten Thousand Fists; it's in that realm and it was really, really nice going back there. We're just digging the shit out of it right now."
However, it's still too early to say whether or not it's a concept album: while there are recurring themes, "nothing has yet been finalized lyrically," Draiman said.
He added that he'd also be interested in collaborating with other artists on the album, which Disturbed has never done before in their multi-decade career — so it sounds like looking back to the past won't hinder new and exciting developments.
"We're gonna hopefully start tracking right after the new year and feeling the way that it's feeling, it's not gonna take long," the vocalist added, hopeful for a 2022 release.
Disturbed's forthcoming eighth studio album will serve as the follow-up to 2018's Evolution... which is sometimes cyclical, right?
You can hear the full discussion with Draiman by tuning in to Loudwire Nights tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
Last year, Disturbed got down with the Sting-ness on a cover of "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You." The band's signature tune also started charting again back in the early days of the pandemic.
