David Myles

Halifax, NS-based songsmith David Myles reportedly didn't know his four hometown shows at the Carleton last December were being recorded. He was happy enough at the results to decide to release them as his first live album. He's worthier than most for this format, as he's a genuinely funny and charming entertainer. His songs are also appealing creations, delivered via a pleasingly melodic voice. The set features tracks from his last three releases, including CBC favourites "Don't Drive Through" (a homage to his New Brunswick roots) and "Need A Break." Myles's self-described first attempt at a seductive love song, "Turn Time Off," is an album highlight. Bassist Kyle Cunjak and guitarist Alan Jeffries provide able accompaniment and backing vocals throughout. Hardcore Myles fans will have all these songs already, but they'll likely want to pick this up just to recreate the warm vibe of his shows. For others, this is a fine introduction to a talented troubadour.
