Even when facing a half empty room, the Death Set's frenetic, shit-eating electro punk turns every gig into a party. As a front-man, Johnny Sierra is a ball of energy and his rapid-fire delivery is wholly infectious. Peppering cuts with backing tracks filled with mixed-bag sounds (e.g. Dizzee Rascal, and was that Gravediggaz?), the band created a dense sonic template that freed Sierra to bounce about, whether prowling the crowd, doing the worm, or climbing the drum kit.
Standout, "It's Another Day," spurred a shout-along session while a towering "Slap Slap Slap Pound Up Down Snap" amped up the already committed mosh pit. Throughout, drummer Will Broussard held together the entire hodgepodge, deftly switching between straightforward pounding and shambolic hammering. Visceral and exhilarating, it was another great turn from one of the most consistently enjoyable live acts out there. And did I mention the worm?
