Toronto-based polymath DEBBY FRIDAY has announced the forthcoming release of her sophomore album — the follow-up to 2023's Polaris Prize-winning GOOD LUCK.
The Starrr of the Queen of Life arrives on August 1 through Royal Mountain Records / Sub Pop, and is previewed today by the propulsive dance pop single "All I Wanna Do Is Party." Produced by Darcy Baylis (and with additional production from Graham Walsh and Tayhana), the new record also includes recent single "1/17" and a collaboration with Detroit ghettotech group HiTech.
As per press notes, while the artist was in the midst of her gruelling touring schedule for GOOD LUCK, FRIDAY fell very ill with stress-induced shingles, which forced her to turn inward and make changes to her priorities and routines.
"This album is about the idea of reaching towards something," she said of The Starrr of the Queen of Life. "It's about seeing the signs and following that impulse, always with the potential of either flying into the sun or falling back to earth."
FRIDAY added, "I want to be a starrr, I can't hide that desire. But what I don't want is to live someone else's dream or to follow a pre-set path."
"All I Wanna Do Is Party" arrives alongside a music video co-directed by the singer-songwriter and Kevan Funk. Check that out below, where you'll also find the album tracklist details.
