Depeche Mode Detail 'Delta Machine'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 24, 2013

Depeche Mode fans have been biting their nails for the better part of a year waiting for the electro-pop originators to reveal the details on their impending 13th full-length LP. It may not have made the proposed end-of-2012 due date, but the album has now been titled Delta Machine, and it arrives March 26 through Columbia.

While the group had previously pointed to the songwriting sessions yielding sister sounds to classic LPs Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion, recent statements from the band suggest that doesn't mean the new album's a retread.

"With this release we've completely shifted our idea of how to create an album," vocalist Dave Gahan said in a press release. "When we hit a wall where we realize the album is beginning to sound too normal, we'll mess it up and really give it that organic Depeche Mode Sound. Delta Machine is no different, and I can't wait for all of our fans to hear it."

Guitarist/main songwriter Martin Gore also noted that he wanted Delta Machine to sound "very modern," and that "it's just got something magical about it."

The album, which was produced by Ben Hillier and mixed by Flood, will be released in regular and expanded editions. The standard set features 13 new tunes, while the deluxe version contains another four tracks and a 28-page booklet featuring photos from longtime visual collaborator Anton Corbjin.

First single "Heaven," which drops February 5, will be packaged with remixes from Matthew Dear, Blawan, Owlle, and Steps to Heaven. It will be proceeded by a video release on February 1.

Depeche Mode also have an arena tour in the works, though so far only a hefty European schedule has been announced. You can see the details down below.
