Destinity

Alright, you can give them a break on the strangely worded band name because they’re from France but bizarre name aside, Destinity are a pretty interesting listen. The most obvious influence is Hypocrisy. The combination of growling, comprehensible vocals with cleaner, more tortured-sounding cries is the first giveaway. It has to be noted that the band do this very well by not overdoing the death growls while still making the clean vocals sound powerful. Destinity place the vocals atop Tagtgren’s early Floridian death metal influences while giving more of a listenable sci-fi feeling to the overall sound. Strung together, it makes The Inside a very enjoyable listen. Beyond the similarities to Hypocrisy, there are also brief moments of orchestral samples resonating through the chugging riffs that add an awesome, epic background (check out "Still Remember” or "A Thousand Falling Skies”). This is only the band’s second full-length effort, which is impressive, considering the wonderful variation between songs. Like classic Hypocrisy records such as The Final Chapter or Abducted, most of the tracks on this album can stand alone as singles, thus providing a record that stays interesting from start to finish.
