What's that saying? "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again?" After changing their musical style a few times, Destinity have finally found their niche. XI Reasons to See is the well-executed fifth full-length album from the French metallers and it's pretty clear that while still firmly grounded in melodic metal, they have learned through tons of experience how to incorporate elements of progressive death and thrash into a workable mix. But while the band obviously love good double-kick, there are times, like on "Self Lies Addiction," when drummer Morteüs is pushing a bit too hard. The drums, while excellent, tend to overpower the rest of the band and it sounds like at any point they might veer off into a jumbled, disorganized mess. While the band have their Dark Tranquillity moments, it is obvious that a lot of thought went into the 11 tracks, most notably on "When They Stand Still," where the clean and guttural vocals expertly complement each other, the keyboards are sparse but well used and the passion the band have for their new album is clearly palatable.
