Subversive pop music vets Devo have announced an upcoming stretch of catalogue-celebrating tour dates, marking the first time the band have hit the road since the recent death of founding guitarist Bob Casale.
As had been previously hinted at in an interview with the group's Gerald Casale, the band will be celebrating their 40th anniversary by taking "all the early, experimental songs" out on the road for a trip called Hardcore Devo Live!, which will be dedicated to the memory of Bob Casale. A new statement describes the tour as "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Devo perform the legendary, experimental music the band created between 1974-1977 in Akron, Ohio."
The set lists will be heavy on material found on the Hardcore compilations, which were both reissued last year through Superior Viaduct and the band's own Booji Boy Records, and the band noted in a statement that some of the songs have not been performed live in over 30 years. It's unclear at present who, if anyone, will fill the position of "Bob 2."
The 11-show tour gets underway June 18 in Baltimore, MD, with the tour route sending Devo up to Canada once for a performance at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on June 26. You'll find the rest of the show info down below.
It had previously been revealed that Bob Casale had not left behind a will or had insurance, so proceeds from the tour will help his family pay off medical bills and other expenses. You can also donate to the cause through a crowd sourcing donation site.
Ahead of the tour, Devo will be celebrating Record Store Day with a trio of releases. The Live at Max's Kansas City 11/15/77 LP is pretty self-explanatory, with a secondary concert set called Butch Devo and the Sundance Gig appearing on a picture disc. Also available will be a split 7-inch featuring the Flaming Lips' cover of Devo's "Gates of Steel."
