Devo vocalist Mark Mothersbaugh has long been involved with the world of film scores, recently racking up composing credits on The Lego Movie and the upcoming 22 Jump Street. Up next for the prolific movie music maker will be an as-yet-untitled comedy from director Cameron Crowe.
As Film Music Reporter points out, Mothersbaugh revealed his plans to work on the project last night (May 14) at the BMI Film & Television Awards in Beverly Hills, confirming that he's about a third of the way through his score.
"He's never worked with a composer before," Mothersbaugh said of Crowe in a red carpet interview, which you can see down below. "He's worked with songwriters and his wife [Nancy Wilson] has written some pieces for him, but this is his first time with a composer."
The untitled film is set to open December 25 and focuses on a plot between a defence contractor and a pilot trying to stop the launch of a weapons satellite. Apparently they fall in love in the process. The comedy-drama stars Bradley Cooper, Emmy Stone, Rachel McAdams, Alec Baldwin, Jay Baruchel, Michael Chernus and Ivana Milicevic.
Crowe's We Bought a Zoo featured music from Sigur Ros's Jónsi, while Wilson contributed pieces to Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous and Elizabethtown.
In related Mothersbaugh news, the musician will be making it out on the road with Devo next month for the group's "Hardcore Tour," which will have the band focusing on their early '70s material, before the release of debut album Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! The trip hits Vancouver on June 26. It's Devo's first tour since the passing of founding guitarist Bob Casale.
