DIANA Announce 'Familiar Touch' LP, Share New Single

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 21, 2016

DIANA dropped their debut full-length Perpetual Surrender back in 2013, and the Toronto band have finally outlined plans for the follow-up. They'll release a new record titled Familiar Touch on November 18.

The group previewed the new material with the release of a single titled "Slipping Away" earlier this summer, and that song will indeed appear on the upcoming record. Also amongst the 10 new tracks is "Confession," which the band unveiled today [via The Fader].

The new track hears experimentation with layers of samplers, synth bass, a rhythm section track that sounds like Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis "if they worked with Annie Lennox" and a guitar part that hears singer Carmen Elle paying homage to Canadian currency and actually strumming her strings with a toonie.

"Lyrically the song is a snapshot of the aftermath of a relationship that's been formed around one person building themselves up by bringing the other down," the band's Kieran Adams told The Fader. "It's probably one of our bleaker songs to be honest. There's no resolution, just four and half minutes of somebody rubbing it in over thick drums and that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis bass line. There might be a backstory that I could tell to shed some light on where the coldness comes from but I think I'd like that to remain a mystery, at least for this song."

While we still have to wait a couple months for the full record to arrive, DIANA have announced a slew of live shows that should give fans a little something extra to look forward to.
