Dilan Dog

Standing Alone

BY Stuart GreenPublished Apr 1, 2001

The second release from Brampton, ON's Dilan Dog finds the young quartet doing their damnedest to not sound like the Fat and Dr. Dream bands that have obviously inspired them. While four of the five tracks on this EP offer the same kind of warp-speed beats and guitar harmonies that you'd find on any Strung Out or Lagwagon record, Dilan Dog is not just satisfied ripping off their idols. They make the effort to do something a little different within a very restrictive genre. And by the time we get to the closing track "I Would Learn How To Walk On Water Just To Stand Next To You," they've completely abandoned the formula with what turns out to be a very effective and surprisingly tender ballad.
