Though Dirty Beaches has been unearthing rarities of late, it looks like there will be some new material heading our way later this year. The noir-pop experimenter born Alex Zhang Hungtai has revealed plans to issue an LP titled STATELESS.
Few details have been given up so far, but Hungtai announced over Twitter earlier today (June 13) that he has handed in the artwork for the instrumental LP to label home Zoo Music, who had issued Dirty Beaches' double album Drifters /Love Is the Devil in 2013. Though the artwork is currently under wraps, he adds that he "can't wait to show it to everyone."
While it's unclear at present if this also means that Hungtai has wrapped up studio sessions behind STATELESS, an additional tweet notes that the full-length should arrive "around late fall 2014" between October and December. It's likely that even more unreleased Dirty Beaches material will surface sometime soon, with Hungtai adding, "I'm sorting thru my tapes for more EP releases."
The Lisbon-based artist also noted that he's made scores for a pair of artist residencies that open later this fall in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira and the city of Braga.
Dirty Beaches recently released a group of old recordings tracked between 2006 and 2012 as Neon Gods of Lost Youth. The B-sides collection features material that didn't make it onto Night City, Badlands, or Drifters/Love Is the Devil, and is partially inspired by Taiwanese blockbuster films and the idea of Diaspora. You can check out the tracks down below or purchase it on Bandcamp.
