Dirty Beaches mainman Alex Zhang Hungtai has been hinting at a new instrumental LP called Stateless for months. After recently sharing a trailer, he's finally detailed the whole thing.
As Pitchfork reports, the four-song project sees Hungtai working with Italian composer Vittorio Demarin on viola (Hungtai plays tenor sax and synthesizer). The album was recorded at ADDAC Studio in Lisbon, and mixed by Dean Hurley, who is best known for his work on David Lynch's albums.
Hungtai described the LP with the following statement:
All seasons are cyclical, like real life shit. We adapt and venture through each phase with intentions of engagement, embracing mistakes and chances that eventually become the foundation of identities and roles we take on in life. All pain is temporary, as in joy, anger, doubt and all human emotions. Nothing is forever. Just a constant cyclical randomization processed in patterns and algorithms. We can't predict life, but we can try to brace ourselves for the ever changing tides of time.
Some dreams, are worth breaking your limbs for.
Dedicated to ALL the young gods out there.
Sincerely,
Alex Zhang Hungtai

He also shared the album's seven-and-a-half-minute opener "Displaced," which can be streamed in full below. Stateless will arrive on November 4 via Zoo Music.
