As previously reported, indie experimentalists Dirty Projectors have a tour-exclusive seven-inch for sale this summer, but the band delivered the A-side, "Buckle Up," for free this morning (July 23) just in case you don't have a turntable.
The group's recent Swing Lo Magellan mixes a number of styles, from indie and R&B to piano parlour sing-alongs, but nothing quite hits as hard as the scrappy "Buckle Up." The amped-up garage rock clanger sounds a little rough around the edges, with choppy bar chords fighting with freeform guitar scree in the chorus, but the off-the-rails vibe is refreshing.
Singer Dave Longstreth's lyrics are love-centric, but his cry of "I make your life exciting" seems fitting for the listening experience.
