Brooklyn art-pop troupe Dirty Projectors reportedly worked on over 70 songs before whittling down their upcoming Swing Lo Magellan to a mere 12 tracks. While we may never hear the bulk of the abandoned tunes, one lucky orphan from the sessions is "You Against the Larger World," a gentle acoustic number that finds main Projector Dave Longstreth doling out passionate cries and dizzying, fleet-fingered flamenco runs.
"I wrote a ton of songs when we were upstate last year. Here's one that didn't go further than the demo but is pretty sweet anyway," Longstreth said in a statement.
As previously reported, the track appears on the Smugglers Way zine/flexi-disc package that Domino and Ribbon Music are issuing tomorrow (April 21)as part of Record Store Day.
If you want to get a sneak peek, you can stream the song down below in the SoundCloud player. Alternately, you can also peep Longstreth spinning the platter in the video at the bottom of the page.
Swing Lo Magellan, meanwhile, arrives July 10 through Domino.
