DJ Shadow Digs into Archives for New Compilation

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 24, 2012

After having delivered a fresh batch of tunes last fall on The Less You know, the Better, beloved beatsmith DJ Shadow will next delve deep into his archive for a compilation of old cuts called Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From the MPC Era, 1992-1996.

A release date has yet been set for the collection, but it should arrive on CD, double-LP and digitally, with the online version featuring three extra tracks on top of the regular 24-song running order. You can see the tracklist down below.

As Pitchfork reports, Total Breakdown will feature previously unreleased instrumental tracks created on an Akai MPC sampler between 1992 and 1996. Some of the tracks included were originally intended to be released on a collaborative EP with Gift of Gab, though the record was eventually scrapped.

You can get a taste of what's to come via a download of 1996's "Affectations," which you can obtain for the price of an email address in the widget down below.
