The Boogie Back - Post Disco Club Jams

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Nov 23, 2009

Boogie music existed in the soulful streets of '80s NYC like the historical and stylistic bridge between disco and house music. DJ Spinna from Brooklyn has meticulously selected the collected tracks on The Boogie Back, touching upon funk, R&B, house and disco styles. "The Bottom Line" by South Bronx kicks off the record using wide, sparkly sounds and a seductive bass line right out of the disco era. Of the two CDs, the first disc takes it to the streets with a DJ mix, while the second offers full-length, unmixed versions of most of the songs introduced on disc one, plus some other tracks. The U.S. Disco Mix of War's "World is a Ghetto" grooves with a severely jazzy flute. "She Can't Love You" by Chemise is sassy and chill. All these tracks are gems. For those who don't know, the highly sought after DJ Spinna has produced for, remixed and performed live with greats from many domains (among them Mos Def, Mary J. Blige, De La Soul, Joe Claussell and Osunlade, among others). The honesty and sincere spirit of the tunes on The Boogie Back make it a concrete listen for dancing or chilling out.
