Though a new DMX album called Redemption of the Beast is ready to drop next Tuesday (January 13), it doesn't appear to be sanctioned by the ruff-rydin' rap vet. Both he and producer Swizz Beatz have taken to social media to call the collection a "fake album."
Following an Amazon listing popping up online for the record, Swizz Beatz used his Instagram account to call out the legitimacy of the 16-song set, which is being issued through Seven Arts Entertainment/INgrooves.
DMX co-signed Swizz's statement by regramming the post on his own Instagram account, while Beatz added a couple more posts to slam the apparently unofficial set, creating the hashtag "#nofakealbums."
"When the DOG come back you will know 100% !!!!!! Stop the B.S fake albums!!!!!!!! Fyi We Cooking Fire," Beatz said.
The pair have been working in the studio on a project since the fall, but info is slim. A due date is TBA.
As for Redemption of the Beast, the record features guest spots from Freeway, Rampage and Jannyce, and is said in a press release to feature "X's signature heavy-hitting, fast-paced lyrics, classic Ruff Ryder beats, and moments of reflection on his experience in the rap game."
You'll find snippets from the album on Amazon.
UPDATE: DMX rep Domenick Nati has stated the following regarding the album: "I spoke to DMX today and he was unaware of the upcoming announcement of the Redemption of the Beast album. When I read him the projected track list of songs to be released X said, 'that's all stolen music.' DMX and myself are highly disappointed that trust was broken and that these songs may be released and sold without X's knowledge or consent. DMX and Swizz Beatz are working on an album together and fans should look to their official social media accounts for accurate information."
UPDATE 2: To further confuse matters, the CEO of Seven Arts Entertainment has released the following statement: "DMX and his team fully cooperated on the production of this album. Redemption of the Beast was the second album planned for release with DMX in September of 2012, following the release of Undisputed. These new masters represent the best of this legendary artist and offer production by some of the best in the industry. All fans are invited to listen to the music, which is the real thing, the 'rough and ready' of DMX. The music and artistry speaks for itself."
