The Grammys seldom get it right — but as last night proved, it might be a new era for the Academy. This tone was set early on in the ceremony, when Doechii became the third-ever woman to win Best Rap Album for the excellent Alligator Bites Never Heal. And what better way to celebrate her rambunctious, meteoric rise than dropping a banger where she delivers her own flowers?
With her typical Southern rap melodics and boisterous sense of humour, "Nosebleeds" encapsulates everything that made her full-length debut so memorable while leaving room for expansion. She spits bars as the beat comes in and out, putting her raw talent centre-stage.
"Nosebleeds" ends with a switch-up to a drum-and-bass-inspired verse that's just as fun as its predecessor. Women have rightfully ruled hip-hop this decade, and as time goes on, it's clear that Doechii's come-up is the final boss.
