Last week, Lil Nas X delivered an excellent cover of Dolly Parton's '70s classic "Jolene," and the country legend has now responded, saying that she felt "honoured" by the tribute.
Parton shared her kind words via her socials alongside a photo of herself and Lil Nas standing side-by-side and writing, "I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X had done my song 'Jolene.'"
She continued: "I had to find it and listen to it immediately…and it's really, really good. Of course, I love him anyway. I was surprised and I'm honoured and flattered. I hope he does good for both of us. Thank you [Lil Nas X]."
Lil Nas X, evidently thrilled by the shout-out, responded "HOLY SHIT" on Twitter.
The interaction comes following Lil Nas X's pledge to collect "every Cyrus stone to harness the ultimate power," which fans assumed was in reference to a potential collaboration with Trace Cyrus, of Metro Station and Miley-sibling fame — having recorded with Miley and her father Billy Ray previously.
As it turns out, X was reaching for the extended family with his tribute to Miley's godmother, Parton.
