Doubledrive

Doubledrive is an Atlanta, GA quartet that has recently made a name for themselves on the road with the likes of Kid Rock and Sevendust. Blue in the Face is the follow-up to their 1999 debut disc, 1000 Yard Stare and their first for new label Roadrunner. Some tracks on the disc were produced by John Philip Kurzweg (Creed and Puddle of Mudd). The others were done with Michael Barbiero (Guns N’ Roses) producing and mixing. Interesting that neither producer’s signature style comes through on this recording. Doubledrive have a very positive way of looking at things. Songs like "Imprint” and even "Million People” are testaments to a very accepting view of all the world’s wrongs. Lyricists Donnie Hamby (vocals) and Troy McLawhorn (guitar) express themselves in very simple and plain language, avoiding abstract and muddy messages. What they want to say comes through loud and clear. Blue in the Face is an uncomplicated disc. This record isn’t a far cry from their debut (more of the same instead of growth and transformation). Doubledrive remains a clean, tight unit that is inoffensive, if somewhat unimpressive or unmemorable.
