Earlier this week, the Weeknd and his listeners were flummoxed to find out that his After Hours album garnered no Grammy nominations, and after the artist declared "the Grammys remain corrupt," Drake has now backed his fellow Canadian's criticism.
Writing on his Instagram Story, Drake compared the Recording Academy to "a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can't change their ways."
"I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after," he wrote.
Drake felt that the Weeknd's work on After Hours "was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way," concluding, "This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come."
Following the Weeknd's claims of corruption, it was reported that the star was shut out of the awards because he had agreed to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.
However, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. downplayed those reports, saying that voting for all categories had been completed before the Weeknd's performance was announced.
Over his career, Drake has captured four Grammys from 47 total nominations. This year, he was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, both for Certified Lover Boy single "Laugh Now Cry Later."
