Drake Reveals He Bought Tupac's Ring at Auction

It's an icy summer

Drake took a break from his eventful It's All a Blur tour to post to his Instagram story last night (July 27), shouting out Travis Scott's new album UTOPIA with an image of a bejewelled crown ring captioned, "UTOPIA OUT NOW MELTDOWN."

The ring has since been identified as one of the several hefty accessories that Tupac wore during one of his final public appearances at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996. Though his case has long been cold, Las Vegas police served a new search warrant in connection with the rapper's murder earlier this month.

British-founded, American multinational jewelry broker Sotheby's hosted the auction where the ring was sold (by way of Tupac's godmother, Yaasmyn Fula). The jeweller revealed that Drake purchased the ring for a whopping $1.01 million USD — making it one of the most expensive items ever sold at Sotheby's auction. The ring is engraved "Pac & Dada 1996" in honour of his then-fiancée, actress Kidada Jones.

Constantly needing to prove that he has even more than Ariana Grande's "7 rings," Drizzy is no stranger to finger bling: last year, he commissioned a necklace made out of 42 diamond rings to represent every time the Certified Lover Boy has thought about proposing. If he gets down on one knee with Pac's ring, that's when we'll know it's real.

Between dodging vapes, beefing with poets and readying a new LP to be released in "two weeks or some shit," it's been a busy summer for Drake so far — but he'll undoubtedly continue finding new ways to crown himself.
