Before releasing his debut LP late last year, Montreal electro wunderkind Michael Silver won much acclaim remixing tracks for high-profile indie poppers like HEALTH and Sally Shapiro. As the remixer becomes remixed, CFCF's Drifts EP finds six artists tackling four tracks from his 2009 LP, Continent. Liberally inflating Silver's silky rhythms, Hamilton's Junior Boys and Guelph's Mathemagic each add volume to the cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Big Love." A pair of TO house artists, Nacho Lovers and Azari & III, spin the bottle on "Come Closer," each running Silver's Italo disco through chillwave's misty filters. Guelph's Memoryhouse tidies up "Letters Home," allowing a pulsing rhythm to gently gestate, while Vancouver's Young Galaxy add healthy amounts of glimmer and shimmer to "Snake Charmer." Thanks to a number of innovative ideas and a novel approach to the stock material, Drifts comes off more like a showcase for Canada's next-class knob-twiddlers than it does a promotional tool for Continent.
