In an unexpected turn of events, Ed Sheeran has proven himself to be irreplaceable.
Shutting down the legions of musicians volunteering to fill in for him on this coming weekend's episode of Saturday Night Live, the singer-songwriter has completed his COVID-19 quarantine period in time to perform on November 6 after all.
"Posting this pic to say I'm released from covid [sic] isolation today," Sheeran wrote in the caption of an Instagram post today, "so if you see me out and about, I've had the all clear and done my quarantine."
He continued: "Excited to hit the ground running with work again and SNL is still on, so tune in Saturday."
Well, it was fun while it lasted? Our condolences to all the crushed dreams out there (snd we're glad to hear that Sheeran's recovering well, obviously).
The musician tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks ago and hence delayed all in-person commitments leading up to the release of his new album = last week — and everyone thought that would include his scheduled appearance on the late-night show, but alas: a twist of fate.
SNL 's November 6 episode will be hosted by Kieran Culkin, following the October 23 episode with Jason Sudeikis and Brandi Carlile.
