UK electro/bass crew EDMX's latest disc is a mega-mix of the Breakin' records catalogue. The old school Kraftwerk influence is strong, particularly on selections like "Bass Freak" and "Don't Touch," while the spirit of Detroit enters in the dark funk of "ZX Spectrum" and "Tech Zero." But these obvious traits aside, the style here is also very British. The snares hit with industrial, metronomic force, making a lot of the tracks sound like tech-step with electro juice. The mix comes to climax when "Bet You Don't" and "Back Up" start banging with housed-up drums to get all asses bouncing hard. The session goes by quickly, with EDMX dropping in tracks every 50 seconds, but it's all tight.
