El Guincho readies new album with Coconot

As El Guincho gets set to lead his North American fall tour, the tropicália-loving Spaniard is hooking up with his old friends Coconot.

Via BCore, the El Guincho-enhanced trio will release Cosa Astral, which, little did we know, will mark the group’s second album. Coconot’s debut, Novo Tropicalismo Errado, apparently came out back in 2005, a few years before the explosion that was El Guincho’s wildly applauded Alegranza!.

According to the press release, with Coconot’s new album we can expect "twisting pop music schemes beyond the limits of the ‘tropicalism,’ ‘psychodelia’ or ‘space’ [with] guitars sounding like keyboards, keyboards sounding as bizarre horns and woodwinds and avoiding too common beats,” which sounds like the thing you’d expect from a band involving El Guincho.

Cosa Astral will drop on BCore on November 10 and will be available to order on the label’s website starting October 15. Also, El Guincho’s Alegranza! will finally be getting a proper North American release on October 21 courtesy of XL Recordings/Young Turks (apparently it’s been pushed back a few weeks from the original October 7 date).

Here is the tracklisting for Coconot’s Cosa Astral, followed by El Guincho’s upcoming North American tour dates:

Cosa Astral:
1. "Conservad el Rayo”
2. "Te Tenía en Cinta”
