Elektro Guzzi

Parquet

BY Andrea AyottePublished Dec 8, 2011

Vienna-based musicians Elektro Guzzi deliver their second full-length release, Parquet, on Finn Johannsen and Stefan Goldmann's experimental techno imprint, Macro. Founded in 2004, the trio create innovative techno compositions using only guitar, bass and drums. When on stage, they look like an average rock band, but their tightly woven executions and mechanical techniques deliver astonishing, trance-inducing dance rhythms that have won over audiences from Mutek to Sónar. Parquet opens with "Affumicato," a brisk, hypnotic groove with building intensity. "Pentagonia" is an uplifting, straight-up dance track with lush nuances, light, echoing overtones and rhythmic loops to strengthen the groove. "Redford" blurs the lines between human and machine, delivering a punchy, deep techno track with larger-than-life percussion, looping guitar bass lines and pinging peaks that will trigger any dance floor into ecstatic mayhem. Computer-free, Parquet was recorded live with no overdubs or edits, yet sonically you wouldn't notice the difference. Celebrated for their compositional depth, this three-piece band manage to change perceptions on how electronic music can be performed by executing some exhilarating, revolutionary techno. Highly recommended.
