Eminem has responded to the backlash against his recent controversy-causing album Music to Be Murdered By.
In a letter posted to social media, the rapper seemingly explained that the album was a satire of how "murder has become so commonplace that we are a society obsessed and fascinated by it."
He went on to say the album is "not made for the squeamish" and that parts of it are intended to "shock the conscience, which may cause positive action."
Eminem reiterated that murder referenced on the record "isn't always literal, nor pleasant" and urged people to "please listen more closely next time."
Upon the album's release, Eminem caught flak from Ariana Grande fans in particular for a line in which he raps, "I'm contemplating yelling 'Bombs away' on the game / Like I'm outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting."
Elsewhere, on "Darkness," Em embodies the point of view of the Las Vegas shooter, though it ultimately serves as a call to change gun laws in America.
