Erland Dahlen

The title of Norwegian percussionist Erland Dahlen's solo debut refers to the Slingerland Rolling Bomber kit employed in the album's creation. That's just one of the plethora of instruments Dahlen wields on this seven-track creation. Singing saw, electronics, a host of percussive implements and a bowed cake-pan adorned with springs are also utilized, to great effect. As a drummer, Dahlen exploits a variety of forms on Rolling Bomber; he plays multiple roles ― regimental drum major; driven, motoric robot; wild-eyed jazz sideman; and contemplative free-improviser ― with unrelenting verve. Thankfully, via the clever use of electronics and singing saw, Rolling Bomber can be seen as more than a percussion record. Melody and drone play a significant role in each piece, lending a sense of personality to the music. Dahlen is a key figure in the Norwegian music scene and Rolling Bomber is the perfect showcase of his percussive and melodic talents.
