Considering it's been over a year since Erykah Badu released her last album, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, news that the celebrated soul queen is ready to drop some new material is more than welcomed. It sounds as if it's not going to be business as usual, though, as her upcoming mixtape will premiere her new, dance-oriented persona: DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown.
Not much is known about the project, which is set to be released sometime next month, but the Badu-produced mixtape reflects what she's been performing at some recent DJ gigs. An account from fans to FACT insists the tunes "will melt any DJ's face off." Regrettably, neither a release date nor a tracklisting exists at present.
Considering her recent work with Flying Lotus, chances are this will be some next-level shit. Chances are equally high that DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown won't be mixing '90s techno with hip-hop. She hates it when that happens.
