While just last month soul queen Erykah Badu premiered a mixtape under the name DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, it appears as if the singer has some new R&B hits coming our way soon as well. Badu has hinted that she's working on a few different projects and has lined up some high-profile guests to work with.
Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Badu explained that she's already deep into making an album with out-there, experimental beatsmith Flying Lotus, confirming earlier reports. But the singer also dropped this little nugget: she is tackling some sort of collaboration with animated outfit Gorillaz.
"I'm making an album right now with a guy named Flying Lotus. I'm working on a project with the Gorillaz. I'm always doing something," she said. "It doesn't always make headlines, but I'm always making art -- always."
It's unclear at this point if either of these sessions will end up being the proper follow-up to last year's New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, but in the meantime, the singer has some non-musical duties to take care of too -- namely helping people through births as a midwife.
"I deliver babies. That's what I do -- that's the art that I'm focusing on right now for the most part. I'm a midwife," she said. "I've been a holistic healer for many years, and it just naturally morphed into this midwifery. I started as a doula, assisting births, and now I'm learning to catch the babies. It's all part of this art."
Thanks to Hip Hop DX for the tip.
