Local faves Esther Grey continue to feel the love for their quirky brand of distorted pop. After keeping their distance for other bands, the crowd rushed the stage to get up close to the Guelph trio. Led by the unique voice and excellent, Ventures-y guitar of Steph Yates, Esther Grey straddle the line between makeshift charm and slick skill. They're total lo-fi with a naive bent but it's all a front for some thoughtful pop ideas and superior craftsmanship. They lurch and giggle self-consciously but it all belies a quaint confidence that deserves a wider audience.
