Eurythmics haven't released an album since the late '90s, and it's been a number of years since the duo performed together. That will change this month, since Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart have announced plans to reunite for a Grammy tribute to the Beatles.
The TV special is called The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles. It will be taped at the Los Angeles Convention Center on January 27 — the day after the Grammy Awards on January 26 — and will air on CBS on February 9. This marks 50 years to the day that the Beatles made their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.
In a statement, Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich said, "When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an... understanding of what they meant."
We're not sure yet what Beatles material Eurythmics will play. Other artists who will appear on the special include John Mayer, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Keith Urban and Maroon 5. There will apparently been about a dozen performances, with more acts to be announced soon.
It comes as something of a surprise that Eurythmics are playing together. In 2009, WENN.com quoted Lennox as saying, "Dave and I talk to each other only rarely these days, and I can''t see another reunion. He lives in America and I'm over here [Britain]. We're both working on our own things."
It's unknown if this is a one-off performance from the pair or if it will lead to further collaborations.
